Congrats Giants...

As a Dodger fan I should hate our rivals from the north. Well, I do dislike them but I don't have the hate that most of the fans older than me might have. Mainly due to the fact that they really didn't do anything for me. Sure, it was always fun going to Dodger v. Giants games but I don't hate them as much right now as I do the Phillies. But I can tell you this, next year I will. This summer is going to be interesting because we have the World Series champs in the NL West. So Frank McCourt and his goons better put a solid product out on the field. Well I have respect for a few of the people in the front office so I shouldn't use the word goons. Anyways, congrats Giants and the Dodgers will be gunning for you. At least it wasn't the Phils or the Yankees.

Go Dodgers.

I WAN'T THIS JACKET!!!!1!

This jacket looks awesome!! Plus I don't have a Dodger jacket yet so it'd be good to add to my wardrobe.
Only downfall, I have to drop a lil over 2 bills after paying tax, shipping, and such. So it might not be in my budget, but I might make it happen. They have more options for other teams too. Link

Fancy Pants Dining

Welcome ya'll... Here is my little review of an experience I had going to Bashan. I'm not a food critic, nor would I say I am a good writer. But here is a shot at both...

It's a small place in Glendale, CA. It was a dimly lit (many of the pictures I took from my phone suffered from it so sorry in advance) place with a modern vibe. They are self-described as casual-fine dining incorporating classic French technique while infusing California, Mediterranean, and Asian practices. This was me and my girlfriends first trip out to what we would call a fancy restaurant. I only say that because the meal was pricey. But it was a perfect setting for a date and we were both glad to experience this place together.

Me and my girlfriend went here right after work. We wanted to try one of the restaurants featured during the Dine LA week in Los Angeles, unfortunately we weren't able to try more. But Bashan was already good in my books because they actually accepted that we were there for Dine LA. We also went to a CiaoChristina! for Dine LA and they actually refused to offer us any of the deals from this. I wasn't pleased at all. Anyways, we were both starving so we were very eager to eat and were ready to get down to business. Right when we got there we were impressed by the decor of the place. It was very modern and my girlfriend pointed out that many of the stuff looked like it came from Ikea. Right when we got in the greeter greeted us and sat us down at the table, she was very polite and definitely knew her manners and the menu. After a few minutes we were able to order and start our dinner.

The first thing that came out was the amuse-bouche, which was a cool white corn soup with squid and honeydew melon. We were recommended to pour the soup over the squid and melon bowl. We both agreed, that it was a good mix of sweetness from the melon and saltiness from the squid. There was a variety of textures and I really enjoyed it. I want to say that this was probably one of the best things on the menu, although technically it wasn't on the menu.

The first course was the appetizer. I ordered "A Study of Heirloom Tomatoes" which was a combination of Heirloom Tomatoes prepared in several different ways. The tomato flavor in this dish was definitely intense, obviously. If you like the taste of tomato you would like this dish. The granita, which was basically frozen tomatoes shaved ice, had the sweetness and tartness of a tomato with a dash of salt. The salad had a nice balsamic dressing that balanced the flavor of the tomato and the cheeses. And finally the shot of tomato water was exactly what it sounds like. The Flavor definitely came through. Personally, I like tomatoes but I felt that the flavor was too strong. I am not that big of a fan of tomatoes, actually the only place I really like them is on my pizza. I didn't particularly enjoy this dish, I quickly chased it with some water. My girlfriend ordered the Ravioli which was stuffed with wild mushrooms and house made ricotta. I know my descriptions are poor but it was a while since we went here and I finally came about to putting something together for it. Most of this is from the top of my head with a little bit of help. But It was good. I mean it was a very safe order but it was good. It tasted like I thought it would. The texture of the ravioli was perfect and the flavor of the surrounding sauce came through. Now, I only had one bite of this so I am not the best person to answer this for you but from my taste buds it was good. My girlfriend did say she like the flavor of the ravioli and felt that the mushroom flavor stood out in the dish.

Next came the main course. My girlfriend got the scallops or "Hokkaido Scallops" but without the bacon. I am not really sure how to explain this dish. It was decent but I am not a big fan scallops, except in sushi. However, it had a mild taste and the flavors were complimented well with the surrounding sauces and clams (i think). I didn't really like this dish too much but my girlfriend was able to finish it so I would say the dish was decent. Next up I ordered the Flat Iron Steak. I definitely enjoyed this dish. The meat was cooked perfectly to medium rare (my first time eating steak not medium well) and I enjoyed every bite. The meat had that beefy flavor but it wasn't over powering. The sauces that were on the dish definitely added to the flavor of the meal, there was a spicy sauce that had a hint of siracha hot sauce and the more savory sauce was described as "veal jus". It was topped with sweet corn and peppers salad and crispy shallots. The shallots were really good, I mean it tasted like onion rings but slightly better so maybe not really good but it definitely hit the spot. The corn salad was also good. Overall, I would say that I would order this dish again if I made my way back.

Finally, we made it to the desert. And I had the best carrot cake I've had in a while. I haven't had much sweets since the beginning of this year because I went on a semi-diet. I started to work out and I was trying to lose all the weight that I had gained since the beginning of college. I was able to drop a few lbs so it was successful. Sorry, I kind of went on a tiny tangent there but back to the food. The carrot cake was moist and the icing and pineapple syrup complimented the carrot cake well. It was a nice sweet dish to end a nice meal. I actually started off by ordering the buttermilk panna cotta. It was good but to me the pomegranate flavor was too much. I don't really enjoy pomegranate, but I was feeling adventurous during this meal. So I went for it, luckily my girlfriend ate the rest of it. But it was good.

I wasn't overly impressed with many of the offerings that we tried from there but there were definitely were a a few that I really enjoyed. My favorite dish of the night was the amuse-bouche. The flavor and textures in this dish were just perfect and I actually wanted to order more by the end of the meal even though I was stuffed. I am not sure if I would be coming back but I never say never. I would come back just for the amuse-bouche though. Again I can't say enough about it, the amuse-bouche was amazing.

Wordsmith

Well lets all enjoy this piece... it was probably made when I was in High School

Paper comfort, I'll never go back.
Ink love, I'll never leave.
Forgive me
for these lines had become blurred.
But once again I've lifted my head,
regained composure, created a home,
and stayed sane. Thanks to you.
My face contorts in the memory
and shade of the days of glass.

It seems we are here.

Here goes nothing...

This is a test... as of now I am pretty sure that no one will be reading this. So I am just making sure this works.

I will be posting...
  • Random stuff that I may find interesting...
  • (like stuff about food [restaurant reviews and what-not]
  • my favorite sports teams [maybe a little about sports in general as well cause I want to become a front office sports figure].
  • Whatever is on my mind.
  • Things I find funny, usually pictures...

Wish me luck!
Peace
